It is very difficult to overtake Ethereum, you are right. But Ethereum 2.0 isn't a final solution, it's a sharded chain of many ETH 1.0 chains and traded scalability against secuity to some extent. Devs might try rollups additionally but it's not a good solution for a frequently used chain.
Avalanche doesn't have such drawbacks because it is not a sharded platform.

It is possible for price to drop more. I can't say, maybe most people have sold already and sell pressure is gone now. Timing of BTC drop was simply very unlucky.
