There's some truth to that but I feel that some people don't try hard enough if their hear-earned money are not at stake.
My view, is that it is. best to learn with your 'own skin in the game'. You don't have to start with much, just as little as 10$ would be enough to get you started. Maybe challenge yourself to turn that $10 into $50 in two weeks or some other realistic timeframe for you.
