The devs havent taken a month to see if the blockchain is safe, they are working on witness sync. Development of that is done and testing has started as can be read in channel #testnet on slack.

Rijk can say, yes we will do it , but it won't go in the code because we working on witness sync. He is unsure and has to think about it, witness sync does not change if the blockchain security is dogshit or not. It's either yes or no, nothing to think about.
