I did end up going with a similar setup. I used a different adapter from the wall to the three prong, but other than that, exactly as recommended. Ran it for hundreds of hours in the summer heat so far, no problems.

For noise treatment, what was done in this guide seems to be the most scientific and thorough method I've seen so far:

He measured the noise profile, filtered out the harmonics, used multiple layers of materials for the walls and avoided any parallel walls.
It reduced the noise by 10dB, which to humans sounds like half as loud due to log scale.
The miner still needs to be in a separate room from anything else (don't put it into you wife's office even with such an over-engineered box Tongue
