we have to agree that probably 90% of new services use this method to grow on social media platforms. the quality certainly cannot be high, fake accounts are mostly used for this or one person controls dozens of accounts. but the illusion of increased activity is created and it will definitely attract a regular user.

Well, you might be right with what you are implying with here. But giving a benefit of the doubt to OP, proper disclosure of identity, reputation and credibility of such service is a must. Then conclusion on their image can be made after.
