Leagues such as UEFA Champions League, English Premier League, La Liga and Serie A are much more popular when compared to the international tournaments. FIFA tournaments still have a place, but they don't engage in useless bilateral tours very often. I would like cricket to move in the same direction, and this will result in more revenues, more T20 matches and will avoid lop sided matches.

Football is much more popular and established game then cricket. FIFA is as big as UN, while cricket is not popular in the whole world. There are only 10 test playing countries. Rest of the countries have team just for formality. So at the moment we cant compare cricket with football. Let the cricket spread to rest of the world before we establish such model in cricket.
