We may think that is okay because we do not know how it can happen, but if we know about that, it is difficult to stop that as that is already public consumption.

Yes, it is so. This is just my opinion and my attitude to the social referral links. I just don`t like hidden links and that`s why trying to avoid such links. This don`t harms me, of course, but the referrer can be more honest and to post this link open.
PS. sometimes i see practice that the referrer gives back some part of his profit from the referral system.
