Yeah, it has gone beyond. Before it was only a dog, that people make fun of but now both the dog and Elon are now starring in the memes. Elon can we called the mastermind of doge but he isn't the only one that shills it but there are more of them in twitter or in anywhere.

I think those people are also investing in doge but how dare you or them to call doge as a face of crypto? Maybe a face of the meme coin, that's more appropriate but if there is a face of crypto that would only be bitcoin and nothing else. Elon is sometimes a joker so don't expect too much that it will come true or you will only hurt yourself. Dogecoin will have an importance once more utilities come but not as important as btc.
