Did he gave you brand new wallet or it was opened and pre-loaded with some coins and history of transactions?
Just make sure that device you receive was not opened or changed in any way, and just to make sure you can reset the device or import your own generated seed.
I had bad experience with friends connected with crypto so I don't trust anyone 100% and it's better to verify your device is genuine on ledger website.
Note that Ledger S is stopping with manufacturing of this devices and I am sure they will stop supporting it with updates soon (like they did with all their previous junk).
I am not suggesting using this (or any of their products) as your main hardware wallet.
