You also have sites where you get a bonus without your money being tied up, you can just do with your balance what you want in the background and collect the bonus points so to speak. That seems more convenient to me.

Most gambling sites need qualifying bets before and the total amount of the deposit, others are also offering staggered signup/welcome bonuses equivalent to the total value of bets. And, signup/welcome bonuses would be worth it if it's a legit gambling site and not just to bait the new players and it's like to force you to bet or deposit to get the bonus.
