Health issues wont stop, but put gambling aside, or lets say pause it. As soon as persons fixed health issues, he will return to gambling. Imho, to be able to stop, one addiction must be replaced with other. It is impossible to take away something brain was getting for years, impossible to take without consequences. Impossible to stop brain from getting pheromones. Replace gambling with sailing for example, and brain wont even notice a replacement.

And aside from that, it's still the will of the person to divert his attention to other things instead of continuing to gamble, there are instances that a gambler ask for some help in order in successfully escape their addictions, but like what you are pointing out, health can paused the gambling activities but if the person is not willing to let go this vices, they will play back right after they've got cure or when they feel that there are no symptoms of any health issue with them.

This kind of thing is a really big issue we know that there's a time that we ignore our health and get abused it and this kind of thing is really hard to face. That's why it is good to make exercise too and watch our health because by that we can make a good decision making when gambling if you think you are not good or well this might affect your decisions and makes a toward mistakes and losses to the game.
