If I remember correctly, the expansion of the number of participants is carried out mainly not by increasing the number of teams from Europe, but by increasing the number of teams from other regions. Therefore, although the situation will improve, there will still be a chance that several very strong teams from Europe will not get into the final part. And the fact that interest in the tournament is falling is obvious to everyone except officials. There is no point in watching most group games, they are completely pointless.
Europe's representation is being increased by +3. So you can't really say that UEFA is being ignored during the expansion. A total of 16 new slots are created and out of that 3 is from Europe. I believe that it is fair. But CONMEBOL got a very unfair deal. They are the strongest confederation out there and for them, the increase is just +1.5. For the 2026 World Cup, there will be 6 teams from CONMEBOL. I would have liked at least 7 teams from that confederation. Everytime, a number of strong teams from South America miss out on qualification.
I don’t see anything fair in this (adding Europe 3 teams while the rest of the world gets 13), the situation will become even worse than it was - the last team from Europe (which did not make it to the championship, roughly 17th in strength) will still be stronger than all the teams from some regions (which did make it to the championship). That's bullshit. I want to see the final part of the World Championship as a serious competition and not as an international festival.
And I also hate the format of the qualifying tournament in Africa when the teams are forced to play a knockout match. This guarantees that 50% of the strongest teams will be eliminated from the tournament. I think the selection system should be changed here.
