There are even worst things than the example you have given. In ancient Rome, gladiator fights are also associated with gambling. It is a fight to the death depending on the decision of the editor. Editor is the person in charge of the event, he maybe senator, emperor or another politico.[1]

Gambling needs to get in sync with the improvement of technology. Since gambling is another kind of business, there are companies that do R&D, improvements, and developments to get ahead of the gambling business competition. As a result, gambling undergoes lots of evolutions and improvements depending on the available technology to date.

That is correct - gambling is a business
and everyone deals with it in their way. However there traces go back to ancient time. In hinduism there are clear signs of gambling in remote past.
