The status with a free transfer may benefit Roma a bit. He did not renew the contract with Torino. I don't know what the problem is but a loss for Torino. But Roma have Tami Abraham to play alongside Dybala. Maybe Mourinho just wants to make him a striker alternative. I don't know if he agreed to accept Rome's offer if it was only used as abraham's or Dybala's cover. Roma are astute they are looking for a lot of players with free transfer status, it is advantageous because they do not need much money.

Mourinho is looking to build on last season’s performance and they are among the most active clubs in this season's transfer window. I think Mourinho is looking to add more attacking forces because of their involvement in many competitions. Tammy Abraham and Dybala cannot play all games because fatigue and injuries must set in at one stage for one of my then.
