Real Madrid needs Barcelona to maintain the television rights deal at high price. They need to co-exist and grow together for mutual benefit. Even Barcelona is taking high risk in this summer with lot of risky deals, Real Madrid does not want to see Barcelona collapses and goes to bankruptcy.

About La Liga title competition, I think Barcelona gives their fans some hope from this transfer season but as said, lot of risk from it and Real Madrid is still in better conditions.

But as you say, older Barcelona players don't have to compete physically as much in the Primera Division. However, I don't see them making it very far in the Champions League either and they really need some success in order to makle so money back over time and not be forced to sell even more of their assets. The deals are risky and they only way to justify them is a successful season.

At the same time you are right, Real Madrid must be interested in Barcelona staying strong. I remember watching every clasico in the past, but no in the last couple of years anymore. It used to be a gigantic fight when Messi and Ronaldo were in their primes. Not it is not the same anymore.
