People are only giving themselves wrong information. There is nothing much special about the merge, or for now than reduction in the power (electricity) usage, but people think that gas fee will reduce which false. People also think that ethereum scalability issue is solved, but which is also not true.

I think your question is about if the price of ethereum will increases while bitcoin price could decrease? Maybe, because people do not know what the fork is all about, but when the merge was announced like a month ago, Ethereum price increase. I am rhinknsome ooepl may want to use the means to invest in ethereum, but I am still seeing bitcoin to be more, more and more dominant for now irrespective of MtGox coin distribution.
