I don't think it is anymore. The amount of wasted gas used to be high a decade ago but it has been decreasing. In fact a couple of years ago the head of NISOC talked about the major project to zero the amount of gas flares and use that gas for many things including in power plants for electricity generation, in refineries, etc.
