We don't know that bitcoin will become obsolete or even better, It's something that people can't do normally when they have a loss like what the OP talked about because it will affect mentality and of course it's quite depressing, It will definitely happen even though we have diversified our investments into many sectors, but maybe when you have diversification there won't be such a bad depression.
