I learned the hard way that most miners don't make money unless they have free electricity and most mineable coins fail due to the sell pressure. Mining is however the best means of fair distribution for a project, which is why 0xMR chose it for example. Now that mining has ended, the sell pressure from new supply has stopped and the results are that no one wallet controls over 6% of the supply.
