Just as much as you dislike it, I don't think anyone is fully in agreement that a gambler should see gambling as a means of escaping their financial problems. Gambling can instead contribute to their financial problems, like being in debt, just as you have mentioned. Although some have taken the risk and got favored with a heavy win, some people have also taken a big risk in gambling, which has landed them in big trouble. Last week I read a thread (I think it was on the Nigerian local board) where a mother and her son were sentenced to prison for gambling off a huge amount of money that was not theirs. Also, there have been a lot of stories on the gambling discussion board about people who have landed themselves in more trouble because they gambled with money that was not their own.

I will like to say that those who landed in trouble are much more in numbers than those that make big gains from gambling, majority of people that are in my vicinity are in debt because of gambling and most of them are addicted to gambling and they don't know how to put a stop to it.

I once tried to stop someone who is addicted to gambling but they keep promising that they will stop for good because have seen the damages that gambling has done to their life and the yet I was shocked when I found them doing the same thing again.

Gambling addiction is very terrible and probably unstoppable when someone gets addicted to it, it is a very bad thing to get addicted, maybe I've not seen those who are addicted to drugs and I may never be able to compare the two but gambling addiction is terrifying.

A people once a gambling addict then they will getting crazy because what ever we do to stop them gambling they will make a way to play or to gamble again. We have the same situation a friend of mine are too addict in gambling and We try to fix him but sad to say we will make a way to gamble again. And Accident happened to his life and one of his family died then that's the time he realize. That he is on a stage of being addict. So we can not change addict people all by themselves if they want to change then they can.

That is nicely said, and what you have narrated is a good example of an irresponsible person. But it still baffles me why some people would lose guard and let themselves be addicted in such a shameful manner. I guess their psychology is so weak. There is no good joy in gambling addiction or any other additions, they would control you and make your life miserable.

Imagine the guy you narrated, he would continue to lose his money, and this will affect his mental health one way or the other. Why not fight it and gamble responsibly?
