Bear in mind that Lightning is still very much in its infancy. There are a lot of further developments which are in the works which we will hopefully see come to fruition over the coming years, and there will be plenty of more developments which have not yet been thought of.

Touching on darkv0rt3x's point above regarding opening and closing channels - two developments which are currently ongoing are Eltoo and Channel Factories. In short, these would allow multiple users to cooperate to make a single on chain transaction, and then on top of that single transaction open as many payment channels between each other as they like. This would significantly decrease the on chain footprint of Lightning channels.

I am still wondering why we haven’t developed the LN ti further upgrades yet? I mean from the discussion on this thread it’s clear that we know the LN capacity and how it is capable of moving even further. Why would it be still in the infancy if it’s existence is as it is since very long period of time. I have no idea about the open and close channels and how the algo works on that front end but definitely lot of developers already know significance of this but too far from developing upgrades.

I want to believe that there is the huge and plausible concern about security, privacy and mostly bug free code and the complexity of L2 seems to be easy to come with complex bugs. So, time is needed to make sure good code comes out. An as we know, it seems that there are not enough devs to keep up with the demand. And, tbh, I don't mind that the development of L2 goes slowly, steady and most important with the best code possible in terms of absence of bugs. OF course it's very very difficult but the least bugs, the best!
