It was never about the money, I think. It was more about achievements. A young player will always think that a big club like PSG with money can bring in a better squad and will get some great achievements. Although PSG were able to win Ligue 1 and other cups from time to time but they failed to win CL which matters the most. A club like Madrid which has a squad with winning mentality can really give Mbappe the achievements he is looking for. But given how things went down last season, will Real Madrid go again for Mbappe this window or maybe next(when his contract ends). Right now, he just recently denied the rumours about him joining Madrid this transfer window as he wants to honor the contract but Romano has reported that PSG either wants the contract extension now or to be sold in this transfer window.

I think that Real Madrid needs desperately to find a key player like Mbappe which would give them that breath that much needed in midfield,Modric honestly is old now and cannot keep up at his age with such a high performing league,I think Real Madrid should do all that is in their possession to get a player like him to join them,it would make a big difference and overall his impact would be felt in both competitions.I am sure with a player like him Real Madrid would be fighting for the La Liga title much better against Barcelona and also his presence in Champions League would probably make them to not suffer devastating lost games like the one against Manchester City this season.
