Freiburg actually made a good start to the season until this game. I wonder how their defense was this vulnerable against Stuttgart. Despite getting a big loss against Leipzig it still didn't prevented Stuttgart from concentrating amazingly on the Freiburg game.

They were just lucky or Freiburg were in their poor form earlier this season, if you take a closer look at the statistics then you will understand that Stuttgart win isn't a win that stems from their great game. They don't dominate from any side, let's say one of the sides they control.

Ball possession? No, they even only have 48% there.

Attempt shot? Of course not, Freiburg played more dominantly in attack, which is why I say that Stuttgart was just lucky.

I see their ball possession percentage as 50% and I don't think it is bad anyway. They were able to balance the game against Freiburg mostly. Because when we look at the other statistics like dangerous attacks, total passes and so on we can see that Stuttgart did a really great job.

But when it comes to luck I can say that they had a wonderful day really as 5 of their 6 shots on target ended up with goals. Freiburg had nearly the same number of shots on target but zero goal. Still I wouldn't call Stuttgart as too lucky considering the general statistics and the final score.

Ball possession doesn't have to be the key precursor for scoring. Of course you need a ball to score a goal, but scoring 2 goals with30% ball possession doesn't mean you score 4 goals with 60% ball possession. There were quite a few teams that had problems scoring despite their overwhelming ball possession and last season Bayern Munich was one of them. Real Madrid, in contrast, changed their game over the years and they have less ball possession and still great efficiency when they are in good form.

Stuttgart had an amazing day and if they play against each other ten times, it wouldn't end 5-0 most of the time, but on this day you can tell that it was efficiency. They had 6 shots on target and 5 hit the back of the net! Wink
