I think they actually know because the news and many cases of the negative impact of gambling activities have always existed even before they were born, but most of them ignore it because they think it's better to try the opportunity to gamble which they think is a shortcut to get money quickly without perform various kinds of difficult tasks like someone who "works" in general.
What the OP said is true, that in essence we must be able to educate ourselves and control our desires so as not to gamble excessively, and we must know the limits of our abilities so that we do not exceed our abilities and financial limits when gambling and causing big losses for ourselves.
