I don't have any opinions about Thiel as a person, but i am certain he isn't the only one in the crypto space playing for FBI. This space is probably full of informants, as FBI seriously needs them to keep tabs.

And not only FBI, there are for sure other organisations that can use cover ops, and probably literal spies as well because this is a perfectly build industry for corporate espionage. I would bet money that intelligence agencies have factions that are gathering cryptocurrency experts to covertly work for them. As intelligence agency, they have to stay ahead the game and know about state of the art tech.
