There should be no comparison between Manchester United and Aston Villa. Aston Villa are more of a coordinated club than Manchester United.

That said, Graham Potter has never managed a big club like Chelsea not to even talk about the pressure that comes from the Champions League.
He was given too much time amd yet nothing positive came up. Erik Ten Hag is different, for if you have seen Erik Ten Hag manage Ajax against Real Madrid and other clubs in the Champions League, you won't be saying this. Erik Ten Hag just needs a proper defensive midfielder and new set of defenders.
In fact, Manchester United is still a better team than other mid-table teams like Aston Villa. Manchester United's performance has of course never been the same as when they were managed by Sir Alex Ferguson, but this team is a better team than Aston Villa until now. Moreover, the Premier League has not yet closed the first half of this season so there are many changes that can still be expected from the performance of each team.
Manchester United are not as good as before, but they have good squad depth to compete in the Champions League zone. Anything is still possible because the season is still long and of course some new players can be expected to spark more good performances this season. They have problems in defense and all lines, I mean the midfielders and attackers are also not performing very well this season.
Yes of course Manchester United have all it takes to become a better club because when we talk about squad they are okay, they have so many good quality players that can deliver well in times performance, and also just as you said irrespective of how poor Manchester United may have been performing we cannot compare them to most of the middle teams that are struggling to come up.
Perhaps what Manchester United needs right now is a good coach that could understand them and has the same pattern and vision with them, this was the reason I mention that Pep Guardiola is the right coach that's well suitable for Manchester United but unfortunately he can never leave Manchester City for now.
