in my experience, if you are on the losing side while you are playing the game. take a pause, assess the situation and check where you are at your set budget. sometimes gamblers are getting lost once they are suffering losses after losses. and they forget all the budget constraints they have.
you need to be firm with your decision if you are setting your limits. always check yourself if you want to continue or not, see the bigger picture of what you're about to execute.

This only happens when the person involved is not an addict, if he eventually becomes an addict taking a break can never be an option, instead he or she will even go further to do anything to satisfy him or herself, addicted gamblers don't see losing as anything because the believe that they can win anytime, when they lose, they strategize and go for more, I think at this point there is no adding that's going to be useful to this person, unless God is involved to salvage the situation if not, you being the adviser might end up having issue with him or her, the question might come from him to you, he might say is the money your own, why not allow me to do what I like, I think this situation is complicated.
