Why don't you use Metamask extension on your phone with extension supported browser? I have been using it since long, and it works for all needs. You won't need walletconnect, since every dapp supports Metamask, you'll be able to connect normally.

And even if a plugin is safe, it can be hacked one day. So I prefer to use a standalone app for connecting Web3 dApps and validating transactions from the dApp. In addition I can check all interactions, I am sure there won't be hidden interactions in the background with the plugin.

You may try Alpha Wallet [1] then, open source and supports all evm chains, use custom option for chains not already there.
