I am not saying that the comparison Darmstadt and Luton Town is perfect or meant to tell us what's going to happen with Darmstadt at the end of the season, but Darmstadt is repeatedly getting a point from their game and that keeps them alive. I think most people thought that Luton Town would be so far behind after half of the season is played, but they are not because they do get a point here and there. All these draws can add up when the season final has come.
I understand your point but as I said before the Bundesliga and the Premier League are quite different. Darmstadt is still quite weak because they don't have good players to compete in the Bundesliga and the limited strength they have will make it quite difficult to compete or get out of the relegation zone. We'll see how Darmstadt play in the next few matches and whether they can win or suffer another defeat.
Their next matches will face Dortmund, Frankfurt and Union Berlin so it is certain that they will miss the opportunity to get points. So it will be quite difficult for Darmstadt to get out of the relegation zone because they face much stronger teams in the next few matches, the opportunity to get points is possible after these three matches and I am also still quite pessimistic.
Just like a weak team in any competition, when its financial strength is still below that of the elite clubs that dominate a league, it is certain that they will often be at the bottom of the table. I don't think it's surprising that Damstadt are having a similar season and their important target is to stay in the Bundesliga next season. They know the benchmarks for the differences with other teams and they will continue to try with the current squad to be able to do that.
Their opponents are also strong teams and I think it's only Union Berlin that they can at least steal points from because we know that even though Union Berlin has escaped the relegation zone, their consistency is still quite doubtful. So at least they will use this match to get points and can't give up just because of the difference in level.
