It is somewhat ironic that with the massive access people have to technology that allows them to communicate with other people all over the world, more and more people feel alone and they are engaging in behaviors that could make them take a dangerous path, so if anyone is feeling this way what they need to do is to look for company with groups of people that may enjoy their hobbies, and in this way eliminate any possibility of developing an addiction.
It is becoming clearer every day that man is designed to have face-to-face communication and not this distance interaction that is facilitated by technology. The more we get closer to technological communication the more we get isolated and suffer from depression. I think people should focus more on building healthy relationships with others or joining groups that promote physical interaction, this could help reduce addictions.
Humans, other animals, plants... all living beings are able to adapt to changes in their environments. The problem is that we are forcing changes that are too big and too fast for us to be able to adapt to them. In the communications, it is ironic but it is real that the more connected the people is via instant messaging tools and social media, the more alone they feel due to the lack of face to face interactions and close relationships, which are replaces by more ephemeral relationships online.
It's the perfect breeding ground to develop not only mental illnesses but a bunch of different addictions.
