I think his contract expired and he spent four seasons in Newcastle before moving to Saudi Arabia.
I don't mind them selling St. Maximin, he is very injury prone player and spent more time in hospital than on the pitch. It is also better for him to play in league where you have one game per week instead of 2.

Is it big money? Don't remember reading about it and if it was I sort of think it would be all over the news.

He was shipped out for only £25m, which is poor business from Newcastle United; I'm sure they could have got more if the team's recruiting team was any good. Not a good deal for the club but a better deal for the doctors for someone who sleeps and eats at the hospital.
