I do agree that Barcelona may get that second position, and Girona being third is not really bad for them. Imagine being a team that people saw you as top half at best, like 10th would be normal and if you finished 6th that would be great and you end up being third in that league.
I think while it is a sad thing to lose out on the title chances, which they had just a month or so ago, becoming a team that is third could feel bad, but we are also talking about a team who overachieved all their expectations. This is why I believe that we are going to end up with something that will take a while before people could see anything crazy, we should just consider the situation to be strong and not really have any issues at all.
Clearly, Barcelona has the potential to overtake the position currently occupied by Girona in the runner up position. however, the condition is that Barcelona must win match after match, especially when facing Madrid in the second meeting. plus, the match against Girona. unfortunately, Barcelona is again experiencing problems with injured players. the absence of Pedri, especially De Jong, will hinder Barcelona's progress even when facing a mediocre team. so, Xavi had to change his patterns and systems to deal with their injured players. reportedly, De Jong and Perdri will be absent for several weeks and may miss the match against Napoli.
As for Girona, Michel's squad is experiencing a downturn in several of its matches. But at least, Girona's position is still quite safe in the top four of the standings, which is 4 points ahead of Atletico Madrid. if Girona ultimately finds it difficult to compete with Real Madrid, at least they only need to maintain their position to finish in the top four of La Liga.
IMO, Girona's performance has declined since Michel was not allowed to join his squad on the field because of a red card in the match against Real Sociedad. after that, Girona's performance was unstable, especially when Salvador Funez temporarily took over Michel's position. If last season Girona finished in 10th place, it is possible that this season they will be able to finish in the top four of the La Liga standings. well, let's just enjoy how far Michel is able to bring his team to maintain its position until the end of this season.
