As with any addiction, the effects of addiction to games of chance and betting do not fall on the gambler alone. It affects the family, friends, relatives, and everyone around him, and may lead to the deterioration of their conditions.
Many individuals who struggle with gambling addiction find themselves entangled in a cycle of debt. When they exhaust their funds for betting, their immediate solution often involves seeking loans to sustain their habit. Despite the looming burden of debt, the fear of accumulating more obligations fails to deter them from indulging further in gambling activities. Tragically, a significant portion of this debt ends up being shouldered by their families, who later bear the financial consequences of their loved one's addiction. Thus, the vicious cycle perpetuates, with the gambler sinking deeper into debt while their family members bear the brunt of the financial strain caused by their compulsive behavior.

Gambling and accumulated debts  lead the gambler to a moral collapse that may even amount to an existential threat to family members.

Addiction to gambling frequently pushes sufferers into a debt cycle where their need to gamble takes precedence over sound money management. The first thing a gambler does when their money runs out is look for loans to keep fueling their addiction. As a result, they lose interest in the debt they accrue since they are too busy betting on their next big idea to be frugal. Sadly, these debts usually fall on their families, who are then left to deal with the financial fallout. As a result of loved ones having to deal with the fallout from the gambler's uncontrolled conduct, a cycle of financial pressure and emotional upheaval is perpetuated.
