A child who will grow up into an adult to gamble will gamble, if he or she doesn't learn it from his or her parents, there are school mates to learn from, there are friends to learn from, there are work colleagues to learn from.

Many parents who don't gamble don't even understand what gambling is, but that doesn't mean that children who have parents like that won't be involved in gambling someday. Because they will find out about it through their friends who like to gamble and this is the most common reason that in the end they learn and feel pleasure even though they always lose and in the end continue to gamble.
And for me, parents who like to gamble should not engage in gambling activities when they are with their children, and even if in the end they still gamble at least not because their parents or always see their parents gambling.
And your story is the same as mine, my parents didn't gamble and my gambling started with a friend who liked to gamble. However, I also kept my gambling activities a secret to them.
