Are you for real mate? Hardware wallets are indeed very safe but if you fail to adhere to simple healthy wallet practices, you could lose your funds. I quite understand the security risks of using a ledger hardware device, but since op didn't give us much info it could be that he stored his seed phrase electronically and that's how his funds was stolen or he bought the hardware device from an unauthorized dealer.
