Let's put aside Lukaku age for now, because statistically the comparison of his goal productivity with Osimhen is not much different where Lukaku in the 2013/24 Serie A season in 32 matches bagged 13 goals and 33 assists while Osimhen in the 2023/24 Serie A season in his 25 matches with Napoli bagged 15 goal and 3 assists.
However, releasing Osimhen from Napoli was a very inappropriate decision, because so far Osimhen role has been very vital as the spearhead of the attack. Although I admit that last season Napoli was better because they managed to win the title, while this season dropping to 10th position shows bad results.
The reason is that Conte has a point of view that is often annoying, so if he becomes Napoli coach, Osimhen career could be threatened.
Releasing Victor Osimhen and having new striker is normal as we are now having new coach at the Napoli after having worst end of the season which bring too much decline in quality and having no consistency after winning title with this all happen due to management level mistake which bring serious trouble and team gone in deep trouble after this all, but now they are working to bring back themselves at the better spot which they deserve in Serie A.
Antonio Conte and Romelu Lukaku have good relationship while these both already work and achieve better results, so things can take good change here as well. Romelu Lukaku is having good depth in last few seasons with he can shine under Conte here at the Napoli which could be good for them because we can expect better results and improved performance which is also important for them for having success.
Lukaku instead of Osimhen? That's serious gambling talk. Osimhen has been a wild card, causing drama. The man has raw talent, no doubt. Goal-scoring machine. Lukaku is a solid player, though. But he's getting older; is he Napoli's future? Not sure. Kvaratskhelia may also leave. Two important players left in one window. A major void will be left in the team. No argument. Conte is a great coach. His past with Lukaku shows he loves him. Is it right for Napoli? Is it better for building a winning team? The huge question
