Probably won't happen and the possibility is really low, there has been many new coin introduced with amazing feature such as really high TPS suited for scaling and cheap transaction but none of them ever come close to bitcoin, even ETH with we all know massive ecosystem amounts to billions of dollars still have quite the gap if compared to bitcoin like by huge margin.

People thinks of bitcoin as the gold of crypto and that kind of mindset will stay the same until decades later on, most of other coin will just be yet another altcoin.

I believe as long as most of the investor still have the mind that bitcoin is the gold of cryptocurrency and everything else is the cheaper precious metal bitcoin will never get overtaken, the thing is, most of institutional investors are putting most of their money into bitcoin and not something else.

so in a nutshell it will give really little room for other coin to surpass bitcoin in term of market cap or repeat the history of what bitcoin has done this past decades. so the chance is very slim, and probably not gonna happen.
