Without consistency , success is not possible. Always follow your teacher but don't follow blindly and do your own research.

There are legit individuals who can share a tip on how to be successful and there might be people who can get lucky to stumble upon them. That is going to be start of their life-changing journey. Planning on the other hand, seems a different matter already. Usually, if who is more educated and has a better life, are still the ones who are more organized and always plan things, though I think this is also the reason on why they achieved their current status.

Planning can consist of small steps and indeed that we shouldn't underestimate them. Not only that they can add up but we can't also get to where we want to go, if some small steps are missing on the way. Lastly, Consistency as you said must also be there.
