I beg to disagree. That's the controversial way of explaining why Bitcoin was created. But Bitcoin was already in the making before the bailout. I probably prefer to stick to the practical explanation of why Bitcoin came into being. So, rather than taking the answer from what's embedded on the genesis block, I prefer to go back to the very first sentence of the whitepaper.

"A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution." This is what Bitcoin is. The need for this is the reason why there is Bitcoin.
