There is no reason for players to be confused with a new formation. A coach can decide to change their playing style as a game is going on and players will easily adopt.
When a new coach comes and applies new tactics, players in a club will struggle more or less to adapt to this big change. Even with same tactical format like a previous coach, it's hard to work with a new coach and Conte surely does not have same favorite tactics like latest coaches of Napoli. He does not have an attacking style and Napoli players and fans will have to digest new tactics, and playing style in this season. They need time or a lot of time to have acceptable adaptation to this tactical change.
The problem is that Antonio Conte has not done enough to stabilize the squad. Napoli had to struggle to win Serie B outfit Modena on penalties in the Italian Cup which is disgraceful. We saw a very poor defending side and the attack depended solely on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The attack became flat immediately after he was injured by Pawel Dawidowicz. The club needs an attacking reinforcement and the settlement of Victor Osimhen's transfer issues will facilitate it.
Both biggest star players of Napoli Kravatskhelia and Osimhen didn't play too well last season and it can be signal that they were controlled better by other clubs in Serie A. Conte can or can not help these players to find new pathways against defenders in Serie A, and with only one match so far, it's not enough for conclusion. The coach and players need to cooperate with each other well to have good performances individually and as a whole team.
