I still don't get why people get their transactions literally stuck on the MEMPOOL. Could it be that the are trying to pay very little fees or they are just trying to keep the transaction pending for a longer period of time. Firstly let me start by saying as a newbie if you don't understand how bitcoin transactions , fees and confirmations work don't try reducing your fees. Most wallets would defaultly select medium or fastest fees before you attempt to adjust and for a while now the MEMPOOL has been nice when it comes to fee rate so you literally won't be charged over $2 - $3.
Personally I think it's ok for a newbie to send that much fees than for you to reduce the fee without properly calculating based on the fact that you don't understand how to manage fees and likely end up doing either an RBF or CPFP which would incur even more fees.
Slightly OT, but it's because some wallets / services are broken or are at times just wrong.
As a for example:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5507531.0The wallet that I use with the default fee that for the last 100 or so transactions ALWAYS had it in the next block or 2.
This transaction took over 2 hours.
A bit different vs the not going to clear for weeks issue that the OP is having BUT, it's still the same concept.
You really check the fees before sending, but I don't think a lot of us do on a regular basis.
I had another TX over the summer that I had to do a CPFP because the the fee needed to be in the 30 sat / vb range an the wallet only did 18 or so. No idea why or how it got that number but it's what it came up with and I just blindly accepted it. So, yes it tends to be more of a newbie issue but I think I can safely say we all do it now and then.
