Yeah that's a question for us, defense has been a continuing problem for Chelsea even in recent seasons but somehow we don't see any improvement efforts there for example by bringing in great players in the defense line instead they focus more on the midfield and attack lines even though we know all lines are quite important. Indeed, in the last transfer window Chelsea brought in 3 players for the defense line but all of them were young players which means it takes time to get the best defense, maybe they are building for the long term?
For now we can't draw any conclusions because the league has just started but at least we have a comparison with other teams like Brighton and Nottingham who only conceded 2 goals in 4 matches well, with this situation, of course we wonder how Chelsea can compete if their defense is worse than mediocre teams? It is clear that even though Chelsea have great strikers, it doesn't mean anything if their defense is weaker. We're not saying it's too bad but it's not good enough to compete in the Premier League.
The way Chelsea recruit players in the transfer market doesn't even look like they are improving their weaknesses last season. Chelsea seems to only focus on getting potential young players who they can use in the long term. And yes they also brought in several young defenders. And the results are not yet visible at all. And maybe they really need time for these young players to reach their maximum level. But if it continues like this, Chelsea will indeed find it difficult to compete in the Premier League, where the level of competition is actually very high. It's just that if we talk long term I think Chelsea have built something good. but for now it seems like they haven't found the best solution to their problems this season. But at least Chelsea looks like they will have pretty good results this season. Even though they are not consistent, I feel this team will continue to grow stronger.
