But... there are exceptions:
There are some requirements that must be met to allow a player to change sporting nationality in order to represent another national team.
Since 2009, FIFA has removed the age restriction of 21 years and in 2020, some other criteria for multiple eligibility and change of association were changed:
1. Being born in the desired country;
2. Your parents or grandparents were born in the country, or;
3. Having lived continuously in the country for at least 2 years.

And yes most of them are now from their grandparents who are from Indonesia today who want to defend this nation, although there are many complaints about what Indonesia is doing, but FIFA regulations still do not limit it, it is a legal way.
BTW the Indonesia vs Bahrain match last night disappointed me because the referee didn't calculate the end time correctly, he gave 6 minutes extra time while it ended with 9 minutes in the second half which is very coincidental or on purpose that at that time Bahrain managed to equalize their position from Indonesia which ended with a 2-2 draw.
