It's really that simple. In terms of performance, nobody beats bitcoin. People who are into the space for years know this, and store their savings in bitcoin. Is bitcoin the most convenient cryptocurrency to pay merchants? No. Monero, for example, is faster on-chain, cheaper and you don't have to select which txo to spend, as amounts are hidden.

Everything else that offers less privacy, or is less decentralized (e.g., Dash) will go obsolete, because there is no reason not to have the best privacy for so little cost.
