So exactly was the bank supposed to do according to you? They are are financial institution, not a facility for recovering gambling addicts nor a mental institution. It is sad, but that is how most societies around the world work.
If I was found gambling at a job here in my country, when money which is preperty of the company, they would have no compassion for me whatsoever and they would fire me immediately, that is the natural reaction for any company which in their business to make money, not to lose it due to the bad habits and problems of their personnel.
After getting fired, that person is supposed to take those consequences of their actions as a wake up call, in order for them to change their way of living and control their problem gambling,.it is on their own hands and not in the control of the bank, which only sees for the well-being of the business and their investments.

According to me, bank or any other employer must respect his employees. Employee has a problem - try to help or at least find out what could be done to help. I dont know what should exactly bank do. Maybe send this guy to visit a psychologist first. Or it leads to: addicted employee - fire immediately, employee got sick - fire him, employee urgently needs to pick up a child from school or child got into accident - fire employee, employee spend 1:01h instead of 1h lunch - fire.

I have no doubt that employee should get fired if had used company's money for gambling. But 1) it wasnt mentioned that he was doing that, he could have been gambling with own money 2) it aint easy to steal from bank or use its funds on own purposes.
