Now that financial institutions and government are becoming interested in Bitcoin, which we all know how this is going to look like on the future.
If what you are suspecting is going to happen in the future is the government controlling bitcoin, then you are mistaken.
What they can only do is buy enough bitcoin, and what they hold is what they have total control of, and what you hold in your wallet you have control over unless you decide to hold it in a centralised system where they can still detect what happens to it. The only way they can affect bitcoin negatively is through price manipulation with high volume; under their control, they can easily cause panic in the market.
But I don't think they view it in such a manner to do such vile things.
