In any event, today, I discovered a second set of stairs (five in all) a stone's throw from the three steps.

So... Five up/down/up a few moments later, down/up/down ... then wander over to the set of three and the same up/down/up a few moments later, down/up/down. ((2X15)+(2X9)) = 48 stairs.

Late yesterday, I strolled over to those stairs and did ((4X3)+(8X5)) = 52 stairs.

5 stairs is a good flight.  But I think we might be counting differently.  Checks OP...

Uhhh... philipma1957 we need a ruling.  Smiley I just noticed in the OP that stairs are both like pushups,  Up and Down is one stair,

I've found stairs that have 3,5,8,9 and even 13 stairs in one direction before there is a pause. (There's one in town that has well over 100 steps in one direction that I want to revisit at some point)

BUT... (cue the ominous music)... I've been counting each step as a stair.  I didn't read the OP (slight pause to go off and read it)

I have a six step then landing then a six step

it is 12 steps up and 12 steps down it would take 8 flights up and 8 flights down to add to 96 and I would simply do a few more to go to 100....

So 7 x up is 91 7x down is 91

then nine steps up  nine steps down (backwards for those nine for different muscle use)

I am almost 68 years old so today I did 110 pushups and climbed 100 steps up then down

it *seems* as though the inference is ideally, any steps would be done in both directions, *but* the actual stairs are counted - i.e. not as an up-and-down movement as in pushups.

So... If we are counting stirs as an up and down, then my total will have to be halved as they are the actual number of stairs *in one direction* that I have done.




I *think* the slight confusion comes from lower in the post which reads:

Some stairs I walk in one direction only (such as the thirteen stairs in a car park) and wouldn't necessarily pause to do return circuits of. (and if I'm going in one direction, then a set of three (e.g. down/up/down) would still give me an odd number of stairs...

(anyone getting a headache yet?)
