If cricket is included in Olympics then I think the spread of cricket will increase worldwide.
Yes, It's confirmed that cricket will be in 2028 Olympics, but not sure if it'll help with popularity cause people who watch it will watch it, rest don't bother, am I wrong?
Most of the teams that qualified for the main stage in the last T20 World Cup have not played in the World Cup before so popularity plays a big role here. If these teams qualify for the main stage in every World Cup, the people of their country and their government will support them, thereby creating a possibility of financial gain here. And as the number of teams increases, the tournament will be longer, the competition will increase and these tournaments will be more enjoyable for cricket lovers. As you said that in future cricket will be included in Olympics many countries will get opportunity to play and I think new teams will emerge from here too who will do well in cricket in future.
Usually in the World Cups (both T20 and ODI), we see many small teams participating and usually we see one sided matches in the beginning of the tournament. What damage these small teams do is that in the group stages one or two teams beats a more stronger or popular team and denies thier entry in the Super 8 or whatever 2nd stage of the competition. It is in the 2nd stage that unexpected entry perform low and usually loses all of the matches.
That is why I think no matter how many 20 or 30 countries play cricket, unless there isn't any consistency and quality in them, they will just do not add any value to the cricket.
