I really don't see anything wrong in mentioning or suggesting users to be selected, I guess you would still say the same if a user selects themselves.
Do not just post the way you want but first read the whole thread. Or at least if you can not read the whole thread, you can read all what I have posted on this thread before quoting what I first posted. That is how a thread can be constructive and meaningful than quoting what someone just posted after OP after a thread has more than one page.
Most importantly joining the discussion for at least from the onset to know where the discussion is driving to, I have came across lot of people were people just jumping into conclusion without them having the right knowledge of were it was driving to before it was ended the way it is. But so people usually join half way to start a discussion they know nothing about, though if that he reads few lines he could have gotten the whole concept of the discussion.
