Firstly, you must endeavor to strike a balance in your work / family life. Being too occupied and having little or no time for your family is an invitation to more restlessness from your spouse. It has led to many failed marriages and broken homes and in the end it's more of a loss.

I'll go for working smart, investing and having time for my family. We don't necessarily need to be working so hard, but get smart with your finances, build some residual income sources through investments and businesses and maintain a healthy work/life balance. You should always create time, even if it's 2 hours a day for the people you love. It would help you be more focused in your work, knowing that you have a happy home, you can achieve more.
I am pretty sure everyone would prefer to spend time with their family if they can, the people who can't, because they have to work, don't do that because they rather work than just spend time with family, they do it because they have to. There could be obviously exceptions to the case, of course there are people who rather spend time working, which are workaholics, and I understand that but that doesn't mean that we are ging to end up with many of them all the time, it is not going to be that easy to handle.

So at the end of the day, it's clear that people work because they need the money, and in our world, we are at a period where money is so hard to come by, and because of that we end up with many bad situations that requires us to work as much as we can.
